Reuse sits above recycling
The waste hierarchy is often drawn as reduce, reuse, recycle — in that order for a reason. Recycling a box still burns energy to shred, pulp and re-form fiber.
Reusing the same box skips all of that. Every additional cycle multiplies the return on the carbon already spent making it.
What a circular box supply chain looks like
It looks like triage: inspect incoming boxes, resell what still ships, recondition what can be restored, upcycle what cannot, and only bale for recycling when the fiber is truly done.
That is the ladder we run every load down — reuse first, recycle last, landfill never.
The business case
Circularity is not charity. Used and reconditioned boxes cost less, disposal costs fall or turn into revenue, and diversion reporting strengthens ESG scores.
Lower cost and lower carbon rarely align this cleanly — corrugated is one of the places they do.
